Architectural Structure of the Valley
The churches carved into the slopes of the Melendiz Stream feature either one or two naves with a Greek cross plan. They are believed to have been founded by known figures. Positioned on both sides of the stream, these churches offer visitors a picturesque view.

Ihlara Valley is home to several painted churches, including Sümbüllü (Hyacinth), Yılanlı (Serpent), Kokar (Fragrant), Ağaçaltı (Beneath-a-Tree), Pürenliseki (Platform), Eğritaş (Crooked Stone), Kırkdamaltı (St. George), and Bahattin Samanlığı (Bahattin’s Granary). These churches feature scenes from the life of Jesus, such as the Birth of Jesus, Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Visitation, Flight into Egypt, and the Last Supper.

Ihlara Valley is approximately 100 kilometers away from Göreme and can be reached by car in about 1.5 hours. Tourists can access the valley through four different entrances: Ihlara town entrance, main entrance, Belisirma Village, and Selime Village. Private and group tours are available for visitors to explore this unique destination.
Entrance Fee and Return Challenges
The entrance fee for Ihlara Valley is 200 Turkish Lira per person, which also includes access to Selime Monastery. Visitors may find it challenging to return to their cars after arrival, but they can seek help from officials in Selime or hire a private driver to assist them.
